Subject: Acting Secretary Mike Dayton Issues Statement Regarding Death of Deputy Fire Chief Mark Cooper
Acting Secretary Mike Dayton today issued the following statement regarding the death of Deputy Fire Chief Mark Cooper of the California Emergency Management Agency Fire & Rescue Branch:
"I am deeply saddened to learn of this loss in our Cal EMA family. Mark dedicated his life to ensuring the safety of all California residents, and his honorable service will forever be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time."
Deputy Fire Chief Mark Cooper, 59, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at 8:12 a.m. after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael, CA. He is survived by wife Marsha, mother Doris and loving family and friends.
Details about arrangements by the family and remembrances will follow from the Fire & Rescue Branch as they become available.

Things are getting underway for our 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off and we are looking for cookers who want to bring their "famous" firehouse or family chili recipes out of the kitchen and into the competition.
Get a team together and start taste testing your combination of award winning chili-making ingredients.
On Monday, October 24th at 5:30 pm,
attendees will join us at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa to enjoy a evening of fun and a few bowls of great chili. Everyone will have a chance to vote for their favorite chili.
Our winning team will be announced the next evening during the "End of the Day" Networking reception and will receive a $250 award, along with a memorable Chili Winner’s plaque.

SCFMA–Meeting Update
SCFMA, TrainingsDear members and guests,
The SCFMA August meeting will be held in conjunction with the annual EVS Open-house. The meeting will begin at the special time of 9:00 AM on Tuesday August 16th. This month’s class subject will be presented by Cummins and Spartan Motors. The EVG Open-house will begin following the meeting. EVG will have off-site parking with a shuttle service to and from the EVS facility. The parking information will be sent with the meeting reminder later this week. The EVG facility is located in Anaheim, CA. Their contact number is (714) 238-0110. EVG is pleased to again be providing lunch for attendees. In the pursuit of enjoyment of the venue by all attendees, please understand that any sponsor has the right to address any unique situation in a manner best suiting the venue.
In conjunction with the open house, Eric Reed will be proctoring the pretest for the CFMA Electrical Systems 2A class (being offered by CFMA at the fall academy in November, 2011 as well as the spring academy in April, 2012). Testing will begin at 12:30PM at EVG on August 16th. Students must have either taken the Basic Electrical Systems class (FM-109) or pass the pretest PRIOR to registration in the electrical certification class of either academy. Please RSVP to Eric at (909)234-2144 to reserve your seat. Testing will also be conducted on September 20 following the SCFMA September meeting.
The September meeting will be held on September 20, 2011 at Valley Power Systems, Inc., 1520 S. Bon View Avenue, Ontario, CA 91761-4407 ph (909) 969-9345. The class presentation will be on Allison transmission troubleshooting and diagnostics. This meeting will begin at 10:00 AM.
