The May 2011 SCFMA meeting will be held on Tuesday May 17, 2011 at the Rio Hondo training facility beginning at 10:00AM.  A short program will be held, but most importantly it is election time.  We need to elect new officers for the next two-year term.  We also need to vote to approve the budget that has been in discussion for the last few months.  George Romo will be stepping down as President and as written in the SCFMA by-laws, this position can only be held by a regular member (civil servant) and not by an associate member.  In addition, Patrick Uptergrove, Treasurer, will also be stepping down at the end of this term.  I want to thank both of them for their unselfish years of service to this organization.  As associate members; Louis Marro, Barry Jeshurin and I are not eligible to fill the role of President.  If reelected, the three of us are pleased to remain as associate Officers.

Please make the time to attend this meeting as it will set the direction of the association for the next two years.  The Santa Fe Springs Fire Department will be hosting this meeting.  The Rio Hondo Training facility address is: 11400 Greenstone Ave, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670-4621.  Please park in the rear lot and to the right as you enter the lot.

Again, the meeting will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday May 17, 2011.  We look forward to your attendance.

!!! ALL STOP, 1411.7 ALL STOP !!!

Following assurances by all concerned at CalTrans that the CCR 1411.7 was a done deal and became law on Dec. 3 at 5:00 PM, we received a call today from James Anderson of CalTrans that stated the law change has been tabled by the CA Division of Administrative Law who does not like some the wording. Apparently, he bulk of the content is fine.

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, ALL MESSAGES PERTAINING TO CHANGES ARE NULL AND VOID. CONTINUE TO RUN UNDER THE EXISTING RULE.

Egg on our face, to be sure. Frustration?  Beyond your comprehension.  This will be fixed and has a mandated maximum 120 day window. If your exemption is about to expire, renew it.

From all of us working on this issue, our sincere apologies for the premature announcement that we had a successful result. Please get on the phone and spread the word to anyone not on the automatic email system.
