Loss of a Friend: Bruce Barklow

,

Loss of a great friend and leader in our industry:

Today I received a call that Bruce Barklow had passed away this morning, March 3rd. Bruce was 85 years old. The family is not going to have a service for Bruce, per his wishes. Bruce was and has been an icon in the fire service dating back to around 1930, when his dad started Coast Fire Apparatus in Pittsburg, CA. Bruce officially retired from the Fire Service 11 years ago.

I was lucky to have an opportunity to be part of the family and learn from Bruce. His knowledge of fire truck parts was unbelievable. For those of you who dealt with Bruce you know what I mean. In my travels his name still comes up with many departments.

If you want to send the family a card please feel free to send it to his daughter.

I just checked out the SCFMA website for the first time and saw the post about Bruce. I met Bruce through the Fire Mechanics meetings and Academy. I had not seen Bruce in a long time or heard of him until now. It is sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends. We have lost a good man and mentor.
